How to manage Exam related stress

In a previous article we have discussed about general youth Stressors. But are you or your child feeling stressed and anxious particularly about the PSLE/O Level exams? Don't worry, there are ways to manage exam stress and anxiety and stay calm during this challenging period.

1) Establish a routine

Firstly, try to establish a regular routine that includes enough sleep, exercise, and healthy meals. This will help to reduce stress levels and promote a sense of control.

2) Pick up relaxation techniques

Encourage your child to engage in activities that promote relaxation, such as reading a book, listening to music, or picking up sports. Also, provide emotional support and let your child know that you believe in their abilities. Breathing exercises can also help to reduce stress levels and promote relaxation. Encourage your child to take deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth, counting to three on the inhale and exhale.

3) Avoid last-minute Cramming

Avoid last-minute cramming, as it can interfere with sleep and cause stress levels to skyrocket. Instead, encourage your child to review their notes and study materials well in advance of the exam. Check out this article on how to prepare your child for PSLE and O Levels!

4) Exams is not everything

Lastly, remind your child that the PSLE/O Level exams are not the end-all and be-all.

Encourage them to do their best, but remind them that their worth and value as a person are not determined by their exam results.

So don't stress out too much, and remember to prioritize your child's mental health and well-being during this period. Let's celebrate their achievements, regardless of the outcome of their exams!
